Next Generation Leaders Scholarship Program

The Next Generation Leaders Scholarship Program is a comprehensive 10-week intensive arts administration training program. Through the program, students will have the opportunity to develop office skills, gain qualifications for future jobs in arts administration, and cultivate social capital by developing connections with leaders and peers. The scholarship program is built with the goal of aiding the development of qualifications to serve as potential future leaders at arts organizations across the country.

About the program
Each student will be placed in a department matching their interests and career aspirations with available placement opportunities, where they will identify objectives and project goals with their direct supervisor. Students will also meet bi-weekly with a professional mentor in order to discuss their education and career paths.

Through the program curriculum, students will:

  • Participate in trainings from senior staff members on a variety of arts administration topics such as artistic planning, marketing, and budgeting
  • Attend cross-departmental meetings to understand the workings of a matrix organization
  • Experience working pods and building skills for collaboration and working within teams
  • Participate in a shadowing experience, shadowing two other departments for a day each as part of holistic learning
  • Participate in weekly meetings with department supervisors to ensure project goals stay on track and can be adjusted as needed.
  • The Summer 2020 term will award $4,500 scholarships (taxable) to a group of up to 12 students. The scholarships are for the benefit of the students and are not paid for or in connection with the performance of services to the Kennedy Center.
