Every second Friday of the month during the fall and spring, the CLC offers a 3-hour hands-on STEAM program for students in home school. Join us for a fun-filled morning, learning new skills and discovering new interests!
Friday, September 11, 2020: Fall into Colors

Fall is the time of year when Nature’s colors change dramatically. In this edition of Homeschool Days, we will explore the science of color including chromatography lessons with Skittles candy and lessons designed by Challenger Teacher in Space, Christa McAuliffe. Grade specific hands-on activities may include making a sundial, crafting with ultraviolet beads, and experimenting to discover the secrets of the light spectrum.

Friday, October 9, 2020: Orbit Away

It’s guaranteed to be an “out of this world” time as we celebrate World Space Week! Explore, design, build and experiment with gyroscopes and satellites. Learn about the different types of satellites and how they affect and improve our everyday lives. We owe a lot of credit to satellites for the virtual learning, lessons, camps, concerts, etc. that we have been participating in.  Students in 4th grade and above will participate in a virtual space mission simulation, playing the role of engineer, scientist or researcher.

Friday, November 13, 2020: Food, Feast and Fun

Thanksgiving is a celebration of thanks, a day to remember the people and things we are most thankful for…it is also a day of fun and FOOD! We will explore the sciences behind food: physical, microbial and chemical, as well as the biology of taste. Feed yourself, or your family, with some yummy science experiments as you explore the properties and fermentation of yeast by making your own bread dough and the chemistry of microwave popcorn.

Friday, December 11, 2020: Winter Wonderland – Solstice, Stars and Sunlight

Winter lights and sights are coming! Learn the science, history and significance of the winter solstice and why our days are shorter in the winter. Explore the properties of the Sun, stars, auroras, and various light waves through the creation of edible models, luminaries and hands-on activities.
