Hispanic Culture Through the Arts

Are you interested in Hispanic culture? 

Join us in this Summer class where you will gain an overview of some interesting aspects of the rich and varied cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, through its cultural productions: films, music, literature, theater, etc. The students will watch movies, read poems and fragments of stories, listen to music, enjoy the reading of a short play, see paintings by great Hispanic artists, and use these works as a way to approach the culture of Spain and Latin America.

This course is designed for those interested in understanding and developing an appreciation for Hispanic culture.

Duration: 6 weeks

Schedule: Tuesdays May 22-June 26 (plus two special sessions to watch the films).

The Amazon and its people. Documentary The River. Conversation with Dr. Juan Carlos Galeano, filmmaker, professor, and specialist of ecocriticism and the Amazon.
XX Century Poetry and the historical and political context in Latin America.
The Spanish Civil War. Film: Pan’s Labyrinth.
Tango, Flamenco and Salsa. Hispanic rhythms. Special guest will play live.
