Contemporary Worship Leader

Overview

The Grace Lutheran Church Council has general oversight of the life and activities of this congregation, including but not limited to the administration of this congregation and all staff members. The Contemporary Worship Leader will serve as a member of the Music Ministry Team for Grace Lutheran Church, providing music leadership for the Contemporary Church Service in coordination with the Music Program Coordinator and other team members: Technical Director, and Organ/Keyboard/Piano Player.

Position Description: Duties and Responsibilities

The Contemporary Worship Leader is a part-time position. The Worship Leader reports to the Music Program Coordinator with oversight by the Council President, the Pastor, and Worship and Music Committee.  This position is responsible for:

  • Working with the Pastor, Music Program Coordinator and Organ/Keyboard/Piano Player, providing worship through music; by singing, playing the guitar, and leading other instrumentalists and vocalists during the Contemporary Service.
  • Working with Pastor, Music Program Coordinator and Organ/Keyboard/Piano Player to choose appropriate music for the Contemporary Service.
  • Attending Worship and Music Committee Meetings.
  • Assisting Pastor and Music Program Coordinator with Contemporary Service Development.
  • Working with Pastor, Music Program Coordinator and Technical Director in adding all service components to the presentation software.
  • Attending all Contemporary Church services and rehearsals.
  • Developing chord charts (when necessary)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in music, music education, church music, Music Therapy, or another relevant degree is desirable, but not required.
  • This person preferably has 2 years of experience with Music Group leadership. Experience may substitute for an academic degree.
  • Demonstrated exceptional guitar skills. This person must have knowledge of a vast array of Christian Contemporary Music and have experience building a contemporary service.
  • Ability to sing with accurate pitch and rhythm.
  • An understanding of basic music theory, including simple transpositions, and harmonizing a melody.
  • Good interpersonal skills; proven ability to work well with others; and to participate collegially with the Pastor, Music Ministry Team members, other church staff members, lay ministers, musicians, and congregational leaders.
  • The Contemporary Worship Leader must have experience as a worship leader, singer and guitar player. This person works with the Pastor, Music Program Coordinator and all musicians in the Contemporary Worship Team to choose appropriate music for the service.

Salary

Contemporary Worship Leader-Part-time ($500 per month starting in September; $6,000 annually, plus $459 SS/Med.)
