Funds for Poetry Projects Available Now




The Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry is currently accepting applications its grant programs. Letters of Interest will be accepted until December 15, 2023.

If you are invited to submit an application, your application will be due February 15, 2024.

The Foundation has four categories of support:

  • Individual poets - poets must be sponsored by the 501(c)(3) organization. Poets-in-the-schools poetry workshops and residencies are the primary grant support.
  • Translation and the Process of Translation - individual translators sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization or projects exploring the art of translation are the primary grant support. Samples from the proposed translation should accompany the application.
  • Developing the Poetry Audience - Organizations applying in this category should describe the target audience. Please indicate previous programming the organization has successfully completed. Past programming has included documentary film production, dramatic presentations, in-school poetry programs, reading series, conferences, and seminars.
  • Uses of Poetry - Programs that use poetry for the greater public good are encouraged. Model programs or curriculums that can be transferred to and used by other organizations are preferred. Past programs have focused on youth-at-risk, hospital and therapeutic programs, minorities, people with disabilities, prison programs, curriculum development, and documentary films.

Only 501(c)(3) organizations should apply. Grants range from $1,000 - $10,000. Indirect costs for grant administration, endowment funds, capital improvements or general operating expenses are not supported.
