What is Florida Talks?

Do you know the little-known story of U-2 pilots who flew from Orlando to Cuba? Or how the Jim Crow era still influences the collective American mind? Or the story behind a black-market orchid-smuggling scheme in Miami? Or the culture of the Florida Seminoles, and the history (and myth) of Chief Osceola? These are examples of more than 80 compelling topics available to you through our Florida Talks program.

Florida Talks, a Florida Humanities program, offers nonprofit organizations an easy way to host informative and thought-provoking presentations (in-person or virtual) by expert historians, storytellers, researchers, and authors featured in our prestigious Speakers Directory.

We provide funding and sample promotional materials for organizations to bring up to three presentations to their community. This is an excellent program to introduce new speakers and topics to your audiences or to supplement an existing lecture series.
