The Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, is calling for all US artists who excel at the art of drawing  for the juried exhibition “Inspired Lines: 2016 Drawing Biennial,” which runs July 2 through Aug. 28. The call invites artists to submit work by March 1 for consideration.

Monetary awards for the Appleton’s 2016 Biennial will be $1,000 for Best of Show, $750 for Second Place, and $500 for Third Place.

The juror of this exhibition is Alison Ferris, curator at the John Michael Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. As curator at Bowdoin College Museum of Art from 1996 to 2008, Ferris curated over 25 exhibitions focusing on contemporary art including Fantastical Fables: Paintings, Prints and Drawings by Amy Cutler, Errant Behaviors: A Projection and Sound Installation by Anne Wilson and Brutal Beauty: Paintings by Walton Ford. One of her major curatorial projects, The Disembodied Spirit (2003-04), explored the curious preponderance of ghosts and the immaterial in 19th-century and contemporary American art.

An application form, with details and submission guidelines, is available on the Appleton’s website at AppletonMuseum.org or by contacting Ruth Grim at 352-291-4455, ext. 1837.

In addition to temporary exhibitions, the Appleton Museum of Art presents a permanent collection of European, American and contemporary art, plus Asian, African, Islamic and pre-Columbian artifacts and antiquities.
