Call for Artists - "Black America - Under Deconstruction"

Black America - Under Deconstruction: Combining Artists’ Motives for Self-Expression with a Contemporary View on Freedom.
The historic Union Bank African-American Fine Arts Gallery seeks entries for the 2018 “Black America - Under Deconstruction.” This exhibition celebrates the “News of Freedom” that relates directly to “Emancipation Day” and “Juneteenth” in the United States. “Black America - Under Deconstruction” is designed for local artists to express the concepts and ideas of freedom through their inspiration and passion to create art. Art submissions should portray freedom as it relates to all aspects of African-American life in the U.S.  Artists are encouraged to reference historical events, people and places. Artworks selected will be displayed at the Union Bank African-American Fine Arts Gallery. This exhibit is intended to celebrate the power of knowledge through the freedom of expression by creative arts.

Acceptable mediums: Painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital, printing, mixed media and performing arts are eligible.  Abstract art is welcomed and encouraged.  All artwork must be wired and ready for installation.  All performances must be family and community friendly. Please note that submitted artwork is encouraged to be available for sale. Artists are responsible for shipping and handling.

Eligibility: Artist must be 18 years or older

Required Materials: Title, year created, medium, dimensions, description, instructions for installation and one (1) image of each artwork.  Artists can submit a maximum of 3 artworks. Performers should upload a multimedia video of performance. The duration of the video must be no more than 30 seconds. All files cannot exceed 10 MB.

Deadline: All applicants must complete the following form by April 30, 2018.
