APAP to launch ArtsForward Reopening Survey

Association of Performing Arts Professionals is thrilled to share that, this week, with support from AMS Planning & Research, APAP will be launching the ArtsForward Reopening Survey. We encourage you to participate in this important initiative.

About the Survey:

The objective of this study of the performing arts sector is to gather longitudinal data from venues, presenters, agents/managers, producers and artists and to track field-wide trends in reopening and resuming programming, booking and touring activities.

The survey aims to capture information on sales, engagement, audience participation and no-show rates, staffing issues, safety protocols and other challenges impacting the field’s safe, vibrant and equitable reopening and recovery.

The resulting report will provide the presenting, touring and booking industry national and regional data to inform decision making as presenters, producers, artists and audiences reconnect, work resumes, tours restart and venues reopen with full attendance capacity.

How To Participate:

The study will take place over the next eight months. Our research partner AMS is seeking presenters and venue operators as well as agents/managers, producers and artists who are interested in committing to completing a survey like this every other month. (February, April, June and August for presenters/venues; March, May, July and September for agents/managers/producers/artists.)

Even if you cannot commit to being part of the longitudinal study for its full duration, you are encouraged to participate. Understanding what is happening on the ground at your organization is critical to the recovery of the performing arts field as a whole.

You will be receiving more information later this week from AMS and APAP on how to participate, and presenters and venues will be invited to begin the February survey. (As noted above, Agents, Artist Managers, Producers and Artists will begin their survey in March.)

Those who commit to the longitudinal study and successfully complete the series of surveys will qualify your organization for entry into a drawing for one of ten $500 Amazon gift cards or one of ten complimentary conference registrations for the APAP|NYC 2023 conference.

Completion of this survey will likely require coordination between multiple parties in your organization. While this invitation may be sent to more than one person in your organization and may involve coordination, the survey should only be submitted by one person per organization. The survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. More information is coming soon.

This vital data gathering initiative is made possible with generous support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, funder of APAP’s ArtsForward program. APAP’s ArtsForward program supports the presenting and touring field’s safe, vibrant, and equitable reopening and recovery as presenters, artists and audiences reconnect, tours resume, and venues reopen.
