Sundance Institute Invites Stories of Change Submi...

The Sundance Institute is inviting proposals to its Stories of Change (SOC) Content Fund for the development and production of independent storytelling projects produced in collaboration with Skoll-Awarded Social Entrepreneurs (SASEs).
Sundance believes creative independent storytelling projects can elevate the world’s most pressing problems above the cacophony of the current media landscape, accelerate the work of leading social entrepreneurs, and advance social change. Authentic, well-told independent projects resonate with audiences more deeply than marketing and promotional media may allow.
To that end, the institute will award SOC Content Fund grants in two categories: 1) Development Grants (up to $20,000); and 2) Production Grants (up to $50,000).
1) SOC Development Grants: Grant of up to $20,000 will be awarded to support the research and development phases for documentary/nonfiction projects; story development and scripting for fiction projects; and a range of research, scoping and scripting activities related to the development of storytelling projects on emerging platforms. SOC Development Grants are not intended to support the production of the final project.
2) SOC Production Grants: Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to support the production phase of documentary/nonfiction, fiction, and emerging storytelling platform projects. Projects considered for SOC Production Grants must be fully developed and ready for the preproduction phase and/or filming (for example, completed script, confirmed story and subjects/characters).
To be eligible, applicants must be an independent storyteller who has secured a commitment from a SkollAwarded Social Entrepreneur to collaborate on an independent storytelling project that the SASE will use to extend or deepen the impact of his or her work; or an SASE who has partnered or will partner with an independent storyteller on a project that harnesses the storyteller’s talent, artistry, and ability to tell transformative stories that extend or deepen the impact of the SASE’s work.
In addition, Stories of Change Content Fund recipients will qualify for the Stories of Change Lab in Sundance, Utah, October 14 to 17, 2018. Preference will go to project teams (this includes both filmmaker and social entrepreneur team) who are available to attend the lab.
