Applications to COCA's FY25 Grant Cycle Open Now

The FY25 application for all COCA grant programs is now available in Submittable. Next Deadline: June 18, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. COCA has three grant programs available for the period of October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025: Cultural Grant Cultural Tourism Marketing Grant Local Community Grant An eligible organization can submit a single application to all three programs. Please read the FY25 Grant Guidelines prior to submitting an application. Cultural Grant The Cultural Grant funds programming expenses. Applicant programming must meet at least one of the following goals: Offer arts, history, or cultural programs with exemplary standards and objectives. Provide educational opportunities in arts, culture, and/or history for young people or adults. Serve a special or diverse population or need, fill a unique niche or engage the community in the creative or artistic process. Funds for the Cultural Grant come from Leon County's Tourist Development Tax (TDT) revenue. Therefore, applicants must also meet all of the following expectations: In addition to arts and culture, the applicant must have as one of its main purposes the attraction of tourists, as evidenced by the promotion of the activity, service, venue, or event to tourists. Applicant must clearly identify public relations/promotional/marketing tactics used to reach visitors outside of Leon County. Applicant must have a marketing plan that clearly indicates out-of-market advertising or promotion. Applicant must track and report the number of out-of-county visitors served by the grant-funded programs. In this grant program, an organization's maximum allowable request will depend on their type (non-profit versus state entity) and their allowable operating income from the previous fiscal year. (See pages 13-15 in the Guidelines to calculate your request.) Cultural Tourism Marketing Grant Applicants who meet all the Cultural Grant requirements may request an additional $3,500 to support out-of-county marketing and promotion of arts and cultural programs. Funds for this grant also come from Leon County's Tourist Development Tax revenue. Local Community Grant The Local Community Grant funds programming expenses. Applicant programming must meet at least one of the following goals: Offer arts, history, or cultural programs with exemplary standards and objectives. Provide educational opportunities in arts, culture, and/or history for young people or adults. Serve a special or diverse population or need, fill a unique niche or engage the community in the creative or artistic process. Unlike the Cultural Grant and the Cultural Tourism Marketing Grant, funds for the Local Community Grant come from the City of Tallahassee's General Revenue fund. Therefore, applicants must also meet the following expectations: Applicants must track and report the number of Leon County and/or Tallahassee residents served by programs. Applicant programming should align with one or more of the following City of Tallahassee priorities (see pages 12-13 of the Guidelines): economic development; impact on poverty; public safety, and; quality of life. An organization can request up to $10,000 to support local arts programs. Funding for this grant depends on the City budget. The City budget may not be determined until after the panel meeting. Follow these steps to submit an application: Navigate to https://tallahasseearts.submittable.com Next to “FY25 COCA Grant Programs,” click “submit.” Create a Submittable account, or log into your Submittable account, and confirm your address. Fill out the following form, “FY25 COCA Grant Programs – Basic Eligibility.” Based on your answer to the question “Please select the grant programs from which you would like to request funding,” you will receive one or both of the following forms within one business day of your submission. If you indicated that you wish to request the Cultural Grant and/or the Cultural Tourism Marketing Grant, you will receive the form “FY25 COCA Grant Programs – CG + CTMG.” If you indicated that you wish to request the Local Community Grant, you will receive the form “FY25 COCA Grant Programs – LCG.” All relevant forms (Basic Eligibility, CG + CTMG, LCG) must be submitted by: JUNE 18, 2024 AT 11:59 P.M. The Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) is seeking dedicated volunteers to participate in our grant review process. Please click here to submit an application. Like the Division of Arts and Culture (state arts agency) and the National Endowment for the Arts, COCA uses a citizen panel review process to evaluate applications for funding. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including: Nonprofit Experts Tourism Professionals Community Leaders Artists Educators Experts in Various Cultural Disciplines Panelist Responsibilities Attend a Panelist Training Webinar: Attend a comprehensive training session to understand the evaluation process, criteria, and expectations. Learn about COCA’s mission and the impact of arts funding on our community. Application Review: Read and evaluate approximately 40 grant applications (exact number to be determined) over a 4-week period. Evaluations will be completed in COCA's online platform, Submittable. Use a rubric provided by COCA to assess each application. Offer detailed feedback to applicants, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. Panel Presentation: Participate in a virtual panel discussion (held over Zoom) to announce your scores. Discuss applications with fellow panelists "in the Sunshine" and ask questions of applicants. Collaborate to finalize funding recommendations. Application Process FY25 applications will be scored on two different panels. Interested parties may select one or both panels. When selecting a panel, please consider both your schedule and your expertise. Brought to you by Samantha Sumler, COCA’s Marketing & Communications Manager, with special guests including Sam Joslin, our Public Art & Exhibition Manager, and Brandon Dinh, our Marketing Assistant, who approves of all event/classified submissions. To help walk you through step-by-step, all workshops in this series will be online only to give you practice creating your listing with our experts to help guide you with any questions you may have. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, showcasing a meticulous eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy. A demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively is essential. Strong research capabilities, familiarity with AP style, journalistic ethics, and a passion for crafting engaging narratives are prerequisites for this role. Submit to COCA's "Behind the Scenes" Please fill out the following form linked below and include photos to be considered for COCA's "Behind the Scenes" albums on social media! This is a great way to get publicity for your organization or studio, and we want to make it easy for you. First, you will provide a description of your organization and upcoming events, or your studio if you are submitting this as a working artist. Then you will be asked to upload five photos and tell the community about them. When you go to add your images, please remember that we are looking for actual "Behind the Scenes" images - sets, rehearsals, sheet music, equipment, stage lights, props, manuscripts, art supplies, etc. Artists should show images of their studios where the magic happens: instruments, art supplies, etc. This is NOT the place to put publicity photos for your event. UPDATE: March 5, 2024 WEEK 9: ARTS & CULTURE FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS- THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVOCACY For the Capital City, Northern Florida, and the entire state of Florida, arts & culture was funded again this year, but at a much lower level than requested. This is disappointing news, but we’ll carry forward and continue to invest in our communities, building every district, every day through arts and culture. Check out COCA’s social media & website this week for updates and news from the Florida Cultural Alliance. Thank you for your advocacy and continued support! UPDATE MARCH 1, 2024 Committee Chairs now make the final determination! Thank you for your advocacy work, especially any you have done over the past week! The House and Senate exchanged their third offers, but they did not come to an agreement. This means that the Committee chairs will decide the final recommendations. The Florida Cultural Alliance lobbyist will work with committee chairs on appeals for continued funding levels for both line items, aiming for levels as close as possible to full funding. We anticipate an update on the decision this afternoon. We will share what we learn as soon as possible. ------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: February 29, 2024 The Senate responded to the House with their Offer #2. They have increased their recommendation for Cultural and Museum Grants to $20,000,000. Ask the House committee members to hold onto their $35,306,453 offer They accepted the House's offer to eliminate funding for Culture Builds Florida. They reduced their allocation for Cultural Facilities to $11,785,546. For those you have reached out and continue reaching out, THANK YOU! Tallahassee LGBTQ+ Resource Guide Application For years now Tallahassee has been in need of a comprehensive LGBTQ+ resource guide, one that is vetted and labored by people of the community. Capital Tea has held a monthly LGBTQ+ resource meeting where local LGBTQ+ groups and advocates have worked to develop a process that ensures this guide will meet our needs locally. Who should fill this out? This application is meant for any retail, restaurant, social service, mental health counselor, realtor, dentist, doctor, vet, entertainment space, legal, and every service that falls in between. We invite business owners and EDs to complete this application and we also wholeheartedly invite folks who work in these spaces as direct care, supervisors, front line, and volunteers to fill this out. Huge shout out to the individuals who labored alongside us. Including but not limited to the Florida State University College of Medicine Center for Translational Behavioral Science, TransParent, PFLAG. We hope to share with you a list of other folks and groups who joined in for the collective goal of ensuring LGBTQ+ folks in our community have access to safe and affirming spaces! Vibrant and diverse, creative and innovative – Tallahassee’s music community has long been one of our greatest assets. "Sounds of Tallahassee" serves as a portal to the unique musical offerings that make the Big Bend region so special. In partnership with Moose Magnificat Radio and Cat Family Records, COCA offers this auditory adventure. We invite you to be part of "Sounds of Tallahassee," an initiative that promotes area musicians and connects them with new audiences. Any musician living in a 100-mile radius of Tallahassee is eligible for this opportunity. It's easy to participate, and it's FREE! Just fill out this quick form to tell Moose Magnificat Radio you want them to play your original songs on their streaming radio station. Feel free to also reach out to Cat Family Records to learn more about their booking, studio, consulting, and DIY resources. If you're not already listed, add yourself to the Artist Directory on COCA's Tallahassee Arts Guide. This service is an easy way to promote yourself to the public. Just visit www.TallahasseeArts.org, and click “register” in the upper right corner of the home page. You'll then have access to your own "Dashboard" that will allow you to add or manage your artist profile on the site. You can also add all of your performances to our calendar, and we'll promote them from the site, in newsletters, and on social media.
