In the south, being biracial still means choosing a race with which to identify. After moving from multicultural Hawaii to a small Alabama town at the pivotal age of 14, now elementary school teacher and filmmaker Sarah Gambles was thrust into a racial identity crisis. On a journey of self-discovery, she began a search to determine if this experience was unique to her. The film retraces her steps back to her birthplace in Hawaii as well as to the diverse metropolis of Los Angeles where she began her television and film career 2o years earlier to interview family members and study the racial opinions and dynamics of places outside of the south. Also included in the film are three other southern biracial women of varying ages whose poignant stories expose an issue that remains taboo today.
