O.L. Samuels Tribute Exhibition

O.L. Samuels Tribute Exhibition

Presented by Gadsden Arts Center & Museum at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum

Gadsden Arts is hosting a tribute to O.L. Samuels with an exhibition in the Bates Permanent Collection Gallery through the end of the year. Samuels, a leading figure in Southern Vernacular Art. Samuels sculpted mythical creatures using found materials – tree trunks, roots, and pieces of old wood furniture—coated with a secret blend of paint, glitter, sawdust, and glue warmed over the stove. His artworks are as alive as they are bright, and included in important national museum collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Arkansas Art Center, and Gadsden Arts Center & Museum. Special thanks to lending collectors Su and Steve Ecenia, Calynne and Lou Hill, and Carlene and Terry Prince.
