Faculty Recital – Christopher Moore, trumpet and Jeff Keesecker, bassoon

The FSU College of Music is pleased to present faculty members Christopher Moore (trumpet), Jeff Keesecker (bassoon), and Valerie M. Trujillo, piano, in a free recital on Sunday, October 1 at 2:00pm in Opperman Music Hall. Selections for the evening include solos and duets for trumpet and bassoon, such as Mathieu Lussier's Double Concerto, Sicilienne et Allegro Giocoso by Gabriel Grovlez, Sonata No. 3 by John Prescott, Paul Hindemith's Concerto, and Eric Morales's Passion Dance.

 

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

 Jeff Keesecker, Professor of Bassoon at Florida State University, performs as Principal Bassoonist with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and holds the Paul W. and Phyllis G. Runge Principal Bassoon Chair with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. He is a Valade Fellow at the Interlochen Arts Camp (Michigan), is the Bassoon Mentor of the National Music Festival (Maryland), and performs with The Dorian Consort Trio and the Opperman Reed Trio. Prior to his appointment at FSU he was a member of the Florida Orchestra in Tampa and taught at the University of South Florida. He has been principal bassoonist with the Florida West Coast Symphony (now the Sarasota Orchestra), the St. Gallen Sinfonie (Switzerland), and Solisti New York. A native of Sarasota, Florida, Keesecker first studied bassoon with Trevor Cramer. He received a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance at Florida State University, studying with William Winstead, and a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Steven Maxym.

Grammy Award-winning Professor Christopher Moore has been teaching trumpet at FSU since 2003. Prior to his appointment at FSU, Dr. Moore was Associate Professor of Trumpet at the University of Kansas, Assistant Professor of Music at Morningside College and was a full-time member of the Philadelphia professional brass quintet, The Chestnut Brass Company, recording 4 CD’s with that group and winning the Grammy Award in their field in 2000 with Hornsmoke, a CD that featured the brass chamber music of Peter Schickele. Dr. Moore holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, a Master of Music in Performance from the University of New Mexico, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Florida State University.

FSU Professor of Vocal Coaching and Accompanying Valerie M. Trujillo’s experiences in song literature and opera make her a much sought after accompanist, coach, and teacher of masterclasses. Ms. Trujillo has served as artist faculty at the Tanglewood Music Center, Ars Vocalis México (Zamora, México), the Taos Opera Institute, The Lake Placid Institute, and Intermezzo Program for Young Artists as well as the academic faculty at the Hartt School, Middle Tennessee State University, Yale University and Central Connecticut State University. Ms. Trujillo can also be heard on the Grammy-nominated Chandos release of Bennett’s The Mines of Sulphur, as well as with fellow Florida State University faculty members Deborah Bish and Christopher Moore on the Mark Records label. A native of Santa Fe, NM, she received her musical training from Eastern New Mexico University and the University of Illinois, where she studied with John Wustman.
