“The Laramie Project” By Moisés Kaufman September 28-29 at 8:00 p.m. September 30 at 2:00 p.m. October 5-7 at 8:00 p.m.
In October of 1998, Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming because he was gay. Playwright Moisés Kaufman made six trips to Laramie and held more than 200 interviews with the people there. The resulting play chronicles the town in the year after Shepard’s murder and is hailed as one of the most captivating and encompassing pieces of contemporary theatre; the play shocks, challenges, and moves all who watch it as it reveals the lowest depths of hatred and greatest heights of compassion that lies within all human beings in any seemingly average community.
