Ernest Henry, the Keeper of the Flame, has been working his tail off to keep the bonfire burning during this monsoon season! Somehow he gets it burning every night. We would like to Thank  Ernest for working so hard.  Thank you so much Ernest!

We have a triple header this week with shows on Friday through Sunday. Some pretty good stuff, too.

James Armstrong and the James Armstrong Band - Saturday, July 21st at 9:00 PM
Club favorite, James Armstrong and the James Armstrong Band, bring in some real deal "Chicago Blues" to the club On Friday, July 21. James is a contemporary bluesman who plays straight up traditional blues with a contemporary flair. He is an entertaining showman, who's mean blues licks and slide is accompanied by a smooth but gutsy vocals that have earned him praise from coast to coast. His music is funky, danceable and is solid traditionally based blues with crying guitar solos--no blazing speed just blues that ooze from the frets. He plays with a feeling that comes from the soul but sings with the passion he has for life. James said what he lost in a home invasion knife attack in the 1990's he found "a whole new respect for the music itself, the power in slow blues, how the silences between the notes are as important as the notes". The reviewers agree:

"... With a skintight band and a well-balanced combination of fire, technical proficiency, and taste, Armstrong continues on his way to the upper echelon of contemporary blues artists. "Living Blues

"... Armstrong smoothly redefines the range of contemporary blues. Highly recommended." Blues Access

"...Demonstrates the kind of flexibility that allows him easily and convincingly shift gears from slow blues... to urban funk... to N'awlins grooves to rousing roadhouse shuffles... " Jazz Times

His tight four piece band is just what you'd expect from The Ambassador of the Blues . This a really good, highly recommended show! .

The Deb Callahan Band - Saturday, July 22nd at 9:00 PM
The Deb Callahan Band brings grit, grace and sweet soul to the BBC on Saturday, July 22 at 9:00pm. Deb's as hot, steamy and sultry as a summer night in Tallahassee. She keeps the crowd dancin' all night long while she let loose with her high energy output, stage presence and vocal prowess. This four piece out of Philadelphia is fronted by Deb, an entertainer, songwriter and singer with a rich, soulful voice. She's a bundle of energy on stage, always movin' and dancin'.

Blues Revue referred to her as the next Bonnie Raitt and raves that "Philly's Deb Callahan has the pipes, the songs and the raw talent to graduate to the next level".

Living Blues says: "Deb Callahan is a shouter, a crooner, a soul-belter and above all a gifted lyrical interpreter. She could sing the phone book and make it sound good."

Deb has an exciting stage presence complemented by solid hip shakin' tunes that'll leave y'all hot and sweaty, too. She's backed up by some of Philly's best musicians including long time band members Allen James on guitar, Garry Lee on bass and vocals, and Tom Walling on drums. These guys are hot and tight. Their live shows feature a very danceable mixture of blues, soul, soulful ballads, 'Nawlins funk and blues/rock offerings. Hot stuff!

"Michissippi" Mick Kolassa & His Taylor Made Band - Sunday, July 23nd at 6:00 PM
"Michissippi" Mick Kolassa & His Taylor Made Blues Band bring their Mississippi laden blues to the backwoods for the first time. No doubt about it, Mick is a bluesman's bluesman. From the Mississippi Delta, to soulful, moving Memphis blues, Mick covers the waterfront and does it quite well. He ain't called Michissippi Mick for nothing, though--his music is steeped in Mississippi mud.

“ With a vibe that fuses admiration with authenticity, you can’t deny this cat’s pedigree when it comes to loving the blues. . . Just flat out fun stuff that sneaks up on you and
never fails to keep its mojo working. Midwest Records

“ Mick Kolassa could work up an arrangement and sing the phone book (from a small Mississippi town), and make it a hit. Reflections in Blue, Bill Wilson

“ Mick Kolassa has a voice that was made for the blues. Rhetta Akamatsu, BlogCritics

“ Whether original, cover, or cover that shouldn’t work but does, we’re starting to get the sense that this cat is a self-compiled encyclopedia of the blues with the chops to back up
putting himself out there front and center." MidWest Record, Chris Spector

Mick is backed by an equally adept ensemble of blues musicians whose moniker comes from Taylor, Mississippi, from which Mick hails. Mick's support of the blues goes beyond his music. He is on the Board of Directors of the Blues Foundation and donates the profits from his cd sales to the Foundation's HART Fund that provides financial and medical assistance to needy blues musicians) and Generation Blues, which provides scholarships to young blues players to participate in blues camps and workshops. That is keepin' the blues alive, folks!

Expect and entertaining and energetic show to top of your weekend. Good stuff!
