Opening July 14 and playing two weekends, “The Magic Flute” will be the first of two lavish mainstage summer musicals at The Quincy Music Theatre in nearby Quincy, Florida. The opera, directed by Caroline Bankey, will be sung in English.
The Magic Flute, written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and first premiering in 1791, was an opera far ahead of its time. Written to be performed both with singing and spoken words, it was truly a “musical” in the most modern sense, and a perfect musical/opera to be performed at the all-musical Quincy Music Theatre in downtown Quincy. The opera will be sung in English.
Opening July 14 and playing two weekends, The Magic Flute will be the first of two summer mainstage QMT productions, in addition to our regular quartet of great musicals performed during the fall, winter and spring.
Notes talented QMT Director Caroline Bankey: "It is a fun amalgamation of several fairy tales with some incredible music. Mozart is truly an architect with his pieces, and he gives such musical meaning to the text at truly the most interesting moments. I think the production is going to be a lot of fantasy fun with some amazing singing.”
