A Night at the Movies

A Night at the Movies

Presented by Tallahassee Civic Chorale and Tallahassee Film Society at Turner Auditorium

The Tallahassee Civic Chorale and their community partner The Tallahassee Film Society, invite music lovers and movie buffs from across the Big Bend to join the Chorale’s final concert of the 2016-17 season “A Night at the Movies.” This musical tribute to the silver screen will be presented under the direction of Dr. Leslie Heffner on Tuesday, June 13 at 7:30pm in TCC’s Turner Auditorium. Tickets for the Tallahassee Civic Chorale’s June 13th concert, “A Night at the Movies” are $5 for Tallahassee Film Society members, $7 for seniors (62+) and students, and $9 for Adults.  Admission is free for all TCC students, staff and faculty with ID.  Advance tickets are available through the Civic Chorale’s website, www.civicchorale.org, and will also be available at the Turner Auditorium box office on the night of the concert.  “We hope to see lots of people in the audience on June 13th.  This is a program that really offers something for everyone.”

The program that Dr. Heffner has chosen encompasses many different eras and film genres, from “As Time Goes By”, made famous by the 1942 Humphrey Bogart/Ingrid Bergman film “Casablanca” to Adele’s 2012 Academy Award-winning “Skyfall” from the James Bond film of the same name. Also featured in the Chorale’s summer program are solos, duets, and small groups that showcase the individual talents of the Chorale.  Amongst the pieces chosen for the program are a family trio singing the Beatles’ “Let It Be,” two old friends performing “I Remember It Well” from Gigi, and a trio of ladies channeling the Chiffons to sing “One Fine Day.”  “Judging from the breadth of material that members brought to auditions and the pieces for the full choir that I didn’t pick this time, there is a wealth of movie music still to explore,” says Dr. Heffner.  “I think there might be a sequel in the works!” To thank their audience for a great 2016-17 season, the Chorale is planning a movie themed reception following the performance.  “We’ll have fresh popcorn, candy, and sodas, just like a movie concession stand,” said Lisa Hetrick, chorale Board member.  “We’ll also have a number of movie posters around the lobby of Turner Auditorium, and maybe a couple of standees that folks can take pictures with!” What a fun night the Chorale has planned. Don’t miss this exciting night at the movies!
