Gadsden Arts: Summer Art Camp

Gadsden Arts: Summer Art Camp

Presented by Gadsden Arts Center & Museum at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum

The Gadsden Arts Center & Museum’s Summer Art Camp offers six weeks of creative fun with experienced art educators! Children ages 6-12 are invited to experiment with a variety of art mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, clay, collage, assemblage, mixed-media, and more! The goal of our “Art is…” Summer Camp is to create a fun, inspiring, and educational program where campers can build skills in the arts and find confidence.

Week 1: Art is…Symbolic • June 12-16, 9am-12pm

Art is full of signs and symbols. Flowers, animals, colors, and shapes can have unique meaning for every artist, so campers will learn about the use of signs and symbols in art and create their own symbolic art too!

Week 2: Art is…Motion & Sound • June 19-23, 9am-12pm

Artists today and in history are often inspired by music and dance. And sometimes, their art even includes music or dance. During this week of camp, campers will get inspired by dance and music in their art.

Week 3: Art is…Weird & Unique • June 26-30, 9am-12pm

Some of the best art is weird! But making art that is different and unique is what makes it special. At this camp session, campers will explore weird art and make their own unique masterpieces.

Week 4: Art is…Magical & Fantastical • July 10-14, 9am-12pm

If you’ve ever seen an artwork that doesn’t look real and want to know how it was made, this is the camp for you! In this week of camp, campers will learn about artists who make their art look magical and fantastical.

Week 5: Art is…Storytelling • July 17-21, 9am-12pm

From illustrated books, to story quilts, to graphic novels, art can always be used to tell a story. Campers who attend this week of camp will have a special opportunity to learn about artists who have told amazing stories with their art, and campers will have the chance to tell their own stories.

Week 6: Art is…Collaboration • July 24-28, 9am-12pm

Artists often work together, learning from one another and sharing ideas. The final week of camp will focus on working together to create our own art and group projects!
