2017 FAAHPN Biennial Conference

Presented by John G. Riley Center & Museum of African-American History and Culture and Meek-Eaton Southeastern Regional Black Archives and Museum at Doubletree Hotel

(FAAHPN) to host the biennial FAAHPN Conference  in Tallahassee, Florida on May 18-20, 2017. We are pleased to bring this prestigious conference to the capital city. Museum professionals, preservationists, historians, travel writers and members of the tourism industry from across regions will engage in workshops, field sessions, evening receptions and heritage tours to strategize and plan for a future of greater engagement and collaborative partnership development and activism as viable and valuable contributors to their communities as visionaries, creators and implementing agents of change.

Among the special guests presenters are: Paula Gangopadhy, Deputy Director for Museum Services, The Institute of Museum and Library Services, Washington D.C. and John Franklin, Senior Manager, Office of External Affairs National Museum of African American History and Culture, The Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.; along with expert museum Managers and Administrators from Florida Department of State, Leon Stubbs of World Global Group and Museums and preservationists and scholars from across the Southeast Region including Florida, Georgia and Virginia. Participants will take from the conference tools and strategies to enable them to be more proactive as initiators, implementers and catalysts for historical and cultural preservation and clarity of the impactful roles for which they are equipped to assume in community development and revitalization projects, destination travel, tourism, heritage education programming, ecotourism and as leaders in the “business” of the profession.
