Summer Camp: The Musical

Summer Camp: The Musical

Presented by Making Light Productions at Making Light Productions

Campers who attend July 31 - August 11 will work together to produce "Summer Camp: The Musical..."

Welcome to Camp Runamok and the wackiest summer camp experience you could ever wish for! This musical has everything you love and fear about the summer camp experience, from the morning routine to corny camp skits and the ultimate talent show. Put away your technology and allow this nostalgic romp to take you on a journey of finding a place to belong, through the mighty highs and comic lows of Summer Camp!

Campers who attend July 31 - August 11 will work together to produce this musical based on a fictional wacky summer camp.  Rotating between music, art, dance and theatre (for details on the schedule, see below), they will learn songs, choreography, and produce sets, props and costumes for the show.

Weather permitting, we will take a "walking field trip" to the Challenger Learning Center Imax Theater on Friday, August 4.* The final performance of "Summer Camp: The Musical" will be held at 4:30 on Friday, August 11, and friends and family are invited to attend.

Please note that this is a two-week camp, and because of the requirements of the production, we can accept no one-week campers at this particular camp.  However, we have several stand-alone one-week camps planned throughout the summer.

*Field trips are additional cost of approximately $10, based upon the shows available at the time.  Details -- as well as a permission form -- will be provided at the beginning of the camp week.

About Summer Camp at Making Light Productions

MLP is conveniently located in downtown Tallahassee at 355 N. Monroe, one block north of Tennessee St., at the corner of Monroe and Virginia (next to Hotel Duval). Our performing arts camps runs 8:30 - 5:30 each day, during which campers rotate between music, art, dance and theatre.  We have camp every week of the summer, except the week of 4th of July.

We accept campers ages 5-16, and we welcome children of all abilities. Our maximum number of campers is 20 students, divided by age group, and we have a ratio of at least one adult staff member to ten students at all times. Campers bring their own lunches, which we eat together in a communal dining area at around 12 pm each day. We provide a morning and afternoon snack (please alert us in writing of any food allergies or sensitivities ASAP), and weather permitting, we walk to a park once a day for an outdoor snack "picnic" and/or another outdoor activity.

After lunch each day, campers will enjoy 1.5 hours of quiet time, during which an age-appropriate movie related to the weekly theme will be shown on the big screen, and campers will have the option of watching the movie, drawing or reading in the Quiet Room, or playing on electronic devices. (Electronic devices are only allowed out during free time.)
