Earth, Wind, and Fire

Earth, Wind, and Fire

Presented by Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall - Florida State University

Primal, violent, and hypnotic, Stravinsky’s revolutionary ballet score The Rite of Spring caused a riot at its first performance in Paris. The year was 1913 and the choreographer was the edgy Vaslav Nijinsky, whose earthy, provocative moves were said to be “physically unnatural to perform” by one of the dancers.  The haunting, spiritual sounds of Native American flute, performed by Grammy-nominated R. Carlos Nakai of Navajo-Ute heritage, will add an element of whispering wind to the concert, and Marquez’s dynamic “Danzon No. 2,” with its fiery, passionate drive, will kick off this fantastic season finale!

Marquez - Danzon No. 2

Nakai - Selections for Native American Flute and Orchestra

Stravinsky - Rite of Spring
