Mantra Music Is a Thing! with Flavia Krishna & Gershone

Presented by Unity Eastside Church at Unity Eastside Church

Among yoga enthusiasts, kirtan or devotional chanting is becoming increasingly popular. The chanting of mantras to music can be a spiritual practice itself, or accompaniment for hatha yoga and other practices. Lakulish Yoga Tallahassee and Unity Eastside Church want to expose this transcendental art form and practice to a wider audience, so they are teaming up to present “Mantra Music is a Thing!” featuring sacred music artists Flavia Krishna & Gershone. This special event will be held on Saturday night, December 10, from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m. at Unity Eastside Church, 8551 Buck Lake Road in Tallahassee. The suggested donation is $15.

Following the powerful performance by Flavia Krishna & Gershone, they will be joined by Tallahassee kirtan artists and musicians for a mantra music jam! The jammers will include Hal Month, JoAnna Valentine, Jeffji, Mike Smith, Adam Gaffney, and Tom Barnum.

Flavia Krishna & Gershone, based in Atlanta/Athens, GA, are about to wrap up their 2016 Fall Tour that has given them opportunities to spread light through the sacred sounds of music at venues from Colorado to Florida. They bring a devotional connection to the mantras and songs that they perform in a variety of languages including English, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Portuguese, Hebrew, and Spanish. And in the true spirit of kirtan, they encourage audience participation, usually in an easy-to-learn call-and-response format. Flavia Krishna sings and plays the mridangam drum, naal, kartal cymbals, and harmonium. Gershone sings and plays the harmonium, electronic keyboard, and guitar. They recently released their first CD, entitled “Flavia Krishna & Gershone, Vol. 1.”

Flavia Krishna has felt the magic of sound vibrations her entire life. As an avid seeker of truth, her path lead her in the early 1990s to live as a monastic for six years within the Bhakti Yoga tradition established by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Life in the ashram brought the opportunity to fully experience devotion and immerse herself into chanting, meditation, and service. It was here that the love for kirtan was born in her heart. In her home country of Brazil, she was involved with a group of musicians called Canarios Brancos (White Canaries), who are leading a movement of unity and healing through sacred songs in praise of Divine Mother. Here in the United States, she is inspired and excited to be awakening and sharing this service with all!

Gershone has been traveling as a musician since 2002. After touring the country with bands like DubConscious and Rahasya, Gershone found himself in the heart of the mantra music genre, playing big-name festivals from BhaktiFest to Bonnaroo with a variety of well-loved music artists including Wah!, Durga Das, and David Estes. In 2015, he spent six weeks in northern India studying Indian classical music, and returned inspired to share his love of kirtan to yogis across the nation!

After you experience Flavia Krishna & Gershone’s inspiring style of mantra music, and participate in their call-and-response chanting, you will understand why “Mantra Music is a Thing!” For more information, visit unity-eastside.org, facebook.com/KrishnaGershone and lakulishyogatallahassee.com or call (850) 656-1678.
