All Shook Up -Featuring the Songs of Elvis Presley

Presented by School of Theatre at Florida State at The Fallon Theatre

The School of Theatre at Florida State presents All Shook Up, a musical inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley®.
Book by Joe DiPietro.
Oct 21 - 30 in The Fallon Theatre

Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley®, All Shook Up tells the story of a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger helps a small Midwestern town discover the magic of romance and the power of rock & roll. All Shook Up has a swivel-hipped kind of vitality that audiences can’t help falling in love with. It will leave you saying “Thank ya, thank ya very much!” All Shook Up features 25 Presley classics, including “Love Me Tender”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Hound Dog”, “Can't Help Falling in Love”, and “Jailhouse Rock”.

This production features School of Theatre students Lily Kaufmann (Natalie, Ed), Sean Watkinson (Chad), Dori Waymer (Lorraine), Angel Lozada (Dean), Taylor Sherry (Sandra), and Trevor Schmidt (Dennis). All Shook Up also features Direction and Music Direction by faculty member Tom Ossowski, choreography by faculty member Kate Watson Gelabert, scenic and lighting design by guest artist Don Fox, and costume design by MFA Costume Design candidate Clara Jean Kelly.

Director, Tom Ossowski says “Music is the food of love. It unleashes something that’s delightful, exciting, passionate, unexpected and often painful and completely out of everyone’s control. All Shook Up is a story of mixed up love interests and identities (similar to Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night) beautifully told through funny yet moving scenes and fun filled dance using the music of Elvis Presley. As one of the writers (Joe DiPietro) said, “the idea that if the girl can’t get the guy she wants, maybe she should dress like a guy to be his buddy and see what happens…”. The show takes place in the middle of a square state, in the middle of a square decade, in a square little town. We are talking about the Midwest in 1955. A time when a new conservatism was in the air, the mayor of our show says, “I am the moral compass of this town”. Unfortunately we are still struggling with a lot of the same issues today, but as Elvis said “You gotta follow that dream, whereever that dream may lead. You gotta follow that dream to find the love you need”.

All Shook Up made its debut at Broadway’s Palace Theatre on March 24, 2005 and ran for 213 performances before closing on September 25, 2005. The original production starred Cheyenne Jackson (Chad), Jenn Gambastese (Natalie), and Tony Award® winner (Featured Actress in a Musical – The Book of Morman) Nikki M. James (Lorraine).
