Presented by Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence at Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence

Pulling from the Museum of Florida History’s Alvan Harper collection, this exhibit includes ninety-six framed photographs and ten framed information panels capturing a now-vanished lifestyle from Tallahassee’s post-Civil War era.

From October 7, 2016 - February 28, 2017, the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence, in partnership with the Tallahassee Historical Society, will host a community exhibit entitled “Picture Tallahassee: Alvan Harper’s Photographs of the Capital City, 1885-1910.” Pulling from the Museum of Florida History’s permanent collection, the exhibit includes ninety-six framed photographs and ten framed information panels capturing a now-vanished lifestyle from Tallahassee’s post-Civil War era.

Photographer Alvan Harper’s work provides a visual representation of what Tallahassee and its citizens looked like during the turn of the century and the movement towards modernity. This unique exhibit will provide an opportunity for visitors to experience a visual history of the Capital City while learning about the daily lives of former residents.

The “Picture Tallahassee” exhibit will be on display at the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence (located on the third floor of the former Mary Brogan Museum at 300 W. Pensacola Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301).  It can be accessed by the public at no cost from 10 AM to 4 PM during the work week and after-hours on the first Fridays of each month as part of the First Friday gallery hop.
