Tallahassee Civic Chorale concert - Snow Angels and Snowflakes

The 2016-17 concert season marks the Tallahassee Civic Chorale’s 31st year of making music together. The fall concert, “Snow Angels & Snowflakes” will be held on Tuesday, December 13 at 7:30 pm in Turner Auditorium on the campus of Tallahassee Community College. The concert will feature the Florida premiere of Canadian composer Sarah Quartel’s “Snow Angel,” a five movement work for mixed chorus, piano, strings, solo cello, and narrator. Composed in 2011 by Canadian composer and music educator Sarah Quartel, “Snow Angel” is quickly becoming a popular selection after high profile performances on the CBC radio’s Christmas Eve broadcast and at the 2014 Chorus America conference. “The programing of ‘Snow Angel’ underscores the Chorale’s commitment to performing contemporary music alongside repertory standards,” said Dr. Heffner. The concert will also include both traditional and innovative arrangements of holiday favorites, and other winter songs.

Tickets for the concert are $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and free for Tallahassee Community College students, faculty, and staff. Established in 1986, the Civic Chorale is a non-audition, community chorus of about 60-70 singers, organized in traditional choral SATB fashion, and (since 1996) also serves as the college chorus for Tallahassee Community College. There are two more concerts scheduled for the rest of the season. The Spring concert is entitled “Global Voices” and will feature Paul Basler’s Missa Kenya, on April 25, 2017. The Summer concert, “A Night at the Movies”, will feature music from the silver screen, on June 13, 2017.
