An exhibition of sculpture by nationally known Southern Vernacular Artist O.L. Samuels, b.1929-d.2017. Samuels worked in Tallahassee for more than the last decade of his life. His work was celebrated and collected by museums across the nation.
Gadsden Arts is hosting a tribute to O.L. Samuels with an exhibition in the Bates Permanent Collection Gallery through the end of the year. Samuels, a leading figure in Southern Vernacular Art. Samuels sculpted mythical creatures using found materials – tree trunks, roots, and pieces of old wood furniture—coated with a secret blend of paint, glitter, sawdust, and glue warmed over the stove.
