Kneeling Before Alice Neel: A Film Homage to the Artist
Kneeling Before Alice Neel: A Film Homage to the Artist
This movie, a documentary by Alice Neel’s grandson, Andrew, explores Neel’s life as an artist and the factors which influenced her work. Her paintings were bold. When she was in her 80s she painted a nude self-portrait (which, by the way, was “artful.”) The film includes interviews with family and surviving friends. Interviews include the artists Chuck Close and Alex Katz.
