Authors in Apalach 2017 - Go Coastal, Go Local

“Authors in Apalach” is a literary/book event, set in the center of the “Forgotten Coast”. The venue, the Center for History Culture and Art built in the 1830s as a cotton warehouse, speaks to the long history of Apalachicola. During the territorial period, Apalachicola thrived with a library here on the frontier. The Apalachicola Margaret Key Library attempts to continue this tradition. Authors who write about, document and photograph this area gather each year to celebrate this special place. This is Old Florida at its best, and a good place for bibliophiles to meet.

Join us and meet the authors of the “Saints of Old Florida”, our featured elegant picture book on the area; prolific authors like Dawn Lee McKenna, with her Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense Series and Doug Alderson with his “New Guide to Florida’s Old Attractions”. Learn about our natural environment, and the snakes that he studies, from Professor Bruce Means, whose book “Priceless Florida” belongs on every Floridian’s book shelf. See wonderful Joe Hutto, the man who lived with a “rafter” of turkeys in Florida inspiring a book and a Nature episode on PBS. Explore the history of the area, in fiction from Michael Kinnett, of the Orman House; or non-fiction Gill Autrey’s local lore; Kevin Begos – editor of “Apalachicola Diary”, articles by long time Mayor Jimmie Nichol (volume 2 on the way); James Hargrove with “The Oyster King”, about infamous William Popham; and of course Faith Eidse documentation in “Voices of the Apalachicola”.
