A two day event, December 1-2, 2017, commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Scott Massacre of 1817
The Scott Massacre was the first U.S. defeat of the Seminole Wars. A force of several hundred Creek, Seminole, and Black Seminole warriors attacked a U.S. Army boat commanded by Lt. Richard W. Scott. The battle ended with the deaths of Scott, 34 U.S. soldiers, 6 women and 4 children and led President James Monroe to order Maj. Gen. Andrew Jackson to invade Florida. This event led to the acquisition of Florida from Spain in 1821.
